VR Wall Box Tintagel: Old Post Office - PL34 1

This box was made by Smith & Hawkes of Birmingham and is a rare example of the first wall boxes made in 1857 and is known as an 1857 Trial Box.

This is box number PL34 1 and can be found at the Old Post Office which is run by the National Trust in Tintagel, Cornwall.

This box is unusual in that it is only used in summer and the aperture is blocked off in winter as can be seen in Peter's photograph.  It is also closed due to Covid-19.

It was spotted by Peter Williams on 3 August 2020.
