VR Wall Box Malta - Valletta: Merchants Street - 286

This box was made by WT Allen of London and is one of the medium size versions of the 1881-1901 range of wall boxes which was the last range of wall boxes made in the Victorian era.  This particular style of the medium size box in the range was made between 1886 and 1892.

This box is number 286 in the Maltese series and can be found on Merchants Street at the junction with St Nicholas Street in Valletta on Malta.  Like most UK boxes on the Maltese islands this one has had its crown and cypher ground off.
