This box was made by Cochrane & Co of Dudley and this style was made from 1873-1878 and is of large diameter with a low aperture. This type of box is known as a Penfold after the designer JW Penfold whose design was chosen for the first standardised national pillar box that was introduced in 1866.
It is box number NW1 1 and can be found on St Pancras Way near the junction with College Grove in Camden Town, London NW1.
