This box was made by Cochrane & Co of Dudley and this style was made in 1878 and has a large diameter with a low aperture. This type of box is known as a Penfold after the designer JW Penfold whose design was chosen for the first standardised national pillar box that was introduced in 1866.
It is box number SK17 1 and can be found on Water Street, Buxton, Derbyshire.
