This box was made by Cochrane & Co of Dudley and this style was made from 1873-1878 and is of large diameter with a low aperture.
This type of box is known as a Penfold after the designer JW Penfold
whose design was chosen for the first standardised national pillar box
that was introduced in 1866.
It is box number BA2 145 and can be found on Great Pulteney Street near the junction with Laura Place in Bath, Somerset.
It was spotted by our Puddleduck friends, Nikki and Gorete on 10 June 2024.
