Edstone (another child goes abroad)

Comma resting in the evening sun

This is Catherine’s last weekend in the UK for a few months; she is off to live in Spain for the summer. So on Thursday I went over to Loughborough to pick up all her belongings and move them into our storage unit in Solihull.

On the way back I called in at the coal yard to pick up what I hope is the last coal we will buy until the autumn.  I forgot we park underneath the aqueduct and have 45 steps to climb to get to the boat – good way to get fit by carrying bags of coal up those steps!

Karen had worked from the boat all day so that Buddy wouldn’t be left on his own and she finished at six, nice and early for her, and as it was such a lovely evening we all cycled down to Wilmcote to visit one of the pubs.  There were still Brimstones, Small Tortoiseshells, Speckled Woods and Orange Tips flying along the towpath and we saw one Comma – see photo at top.

We went to the Masons Arms which is a good old traditional pub.  You know the sort of place, nothing fancy, a drinkers’ pub and basic 1970’s pub food; chicken or scampi in a basket or ham, egg and chips.  We didn’t eat there though but maybe one evening when neither of us fancy cooking.

Wendy kindly sent us a link about the shopkeeper in Wootton Wawen that I mentioned in yesterday's blog.  Apparently he is well known in the area and this was from The Daily Telegraph: Wootton Wawen shopkeeper mentioned in the national press.
